From that great theologian, Pogo the Possum, words of wisdom that put a twist on a famous quotation of an American military general:
We have met the enemy and it is us!
Pogo, Walt Kelly, Earth Day 1971.

We are all capable of change and growth; we just need to know where to begin.
Blaine Lee

It takes courage to grow up and turn out to be who you really are.
e.e. cummings

Rabbi Zusya said that on the Day of Judgment, God would ask him, not why he had not been Moses, but why he had not been Zusya.
Walter Kaufmann

When one is a stranger to oneself then one is estranged from others too. If one is out of touch with oneself, then one cannot touch others.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh

Each of us has some kind of vocation.  We are called by God to share in His life and His kingdom.  If we find that place we will be happy.  If we do not find it, we can never be completely happy.  For each one of us, there is only one thing necessary:  to fulfill our own destiny, according to God’s will, to be what God wants us to be.
Thomas Merton

It is not possible to resolve our problems or issues in life if we do not know who we are. Knowing ourselves is the foundation to understanding what we do, why we do it, and how to change.  . . . self knowledge is the basis of all knowledge and the foundation for being able to be of true value to others. The more we know ourselves at all levels the less we will be attached to ourselves, the less we will be controlled by our lower nature and the less we will project onto others aspects of our own unconsciousness.
Andrew Schneider

Per*son*al*i*ty:  the quality or state of being a person; personal existence; the complex of characteristics that distinguishes an individual or a nation or group; especially : the totality of an individual's behavioral and emotional characteristics [Middle English personalite, from Late Latin personalitat-, personalitas, from personalis]
The Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary

To understand ourselves and how we are alike and different from others gives us an awareness and appreciation for both our individual uniqueness and our shared humanity.

Personality affects all of our relationships . . . relationship with self, relationships with others and relationship with God.  We have studied many different personality typing systems. The two systems we have found most helpful in working with people on the spiritual journey are the Enneagram and the Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI).
